Advocate Thabani Mpofu, who rose to national prominence representing opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa in the Constitutional Court, challenging the presidential election results, will spend the night in custody after police charged him for allegedly defeating or obstructing the course of justice.

His most prominent client, Chamisa, confirmed on Twitter on Monday evening that Mpofu would be a guest of the state, at least for a night.
“The people’s advocate is resolute, indomitable, and unshaken. Victory is uncertain,” the opposition leader, tweeted.
Chamisa said he was in touch with Mpofu’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, who informed him that her client was due in court on Tuesday.
In an earlier statement, MDC Alliance spokesman, Fadzayi Mahere said armed police had raided Mpofu’s home, describing the the raid as the “latest in a series of state-sponsored attacks on the pillars of our party”.

The Adventist Lawyers Association also condemned Mpofu’s arrest, rallying behind the lawyer.
Mpofu is alleged to have drafted an affidavit in the name of a non-existent Simbarashe Zuze which was filed at the Constitutional Court.
He handed himself over to the police on Monday morning.
