The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy will on Monday send a delegation of 12 of its members, including Parliament support staff to South Africa to study that country’s platinum mining operations.

Guruve South MP, Edward Chindori-Chininga, who is the chairman of the committee, confirmed the visit and said this would also give them an opportunity to study the corporate social responsibility contributions to the local communities in Rustenburg by the South African Platinum mines.

“The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy’s interest is to familiarise itself and learn about the platinum product chain from mining productions at Zimplats and Mimosa mines, to platinum processing from precious metal refinery and base metal refinery processing at Springs and Rustenburg in South Africa respectively,” said Chindori-Chininga.

“The delegation will report back to the rest of the committee upon return.”
