Two Ministry of Finance employees were last week arrested and charged with allegedly selling their merchandise to the ministry through an alleged deal with a Harare clothing shop.
The Finance ministry’s registry supervisor Linda Kembo (38) and principal economist Petronella Angeline Chishawa (28) were jointly charged when they appeared before provincial magistrate Shane Kubonera.
They were charged with corruptly concealing from their employer personal interest in a transaction and were not asked to plead. They were remanded to July 25 on $100 bail each.
On March 1 this year, Kembo and Chishawa were allegedly tasked by the Ministry of Finance to source for clothing items for 31 ushers for an investment conference.
The two allegedly went to a clothing shop, Mick Davies, in Harare where they reportedly requested for a quotation from Sekai Manyepwa and Lovejoy Kaungwa.
It is alleged Kembo and Chishawa were informed that only a few of the required items were in stock.

However, the two allegedly suggested they would bring their own supplies to the shop which would in turn be sold to the Ministry of Finance under the guise of Mick Davies.
Pursuant to their plan, Kembo and Chishawa are said to have supplied Mick Davies with clothing items valued at $4 728, which were allegedly included on the invoice for a total of $9 848.
The Finance ministry allegedly paid for the clothing after which the two went and collected $4 728 from the shop on the same day.
The State alleges Kembo and Chishawa corruptly deceived their principal into believing the clothes were supplied by Mick Davies.
