A Nyamandlovu rape suspect, who last month caused a stir after he claimed he had endured a month-long erection after bedding a minor, on Tuesday told the court his condition had vastly improved following a visit to members of an Apostolic sect.

On Tuesday, Phumuzani Ndlovu (25) of George Silundika Plots in Nyamandlovu walked with ease into the dock than previously, his face beaming with life when he appeared before magistrate Godwin Sengweni for routine remand.

He claimed his condition had improved following intercessory prayers by members of an Apostolic sect.

Last week, Sengweni advised Ndlovu to seek help from medical personnel, but he told the court medical personnel at Nyamandlovu District Hospital had suggested traditional remedies. Ndlovu told the court he suspected that he was suffering from ulunyoka/runyoka.

He was again not asked to plead to allegations of raping a 15-year-old girl and was remanded out of custody to September 21 for trial.

State allegations are on July 13, Ndlovu raped the minor after offering her overnight accommodation on her way to school.

However, the matter came to light four days later after Ndlovu went to the girl’s school claiming he had had a prolonged erection after bedding the teenager.

A woman at the school telephoned the alleged victim’s grandmother, who later met Ndlovu before making a police report.
