Botswana has reportedly deported about 2000 undocumented Zimbabweans over the last two months.

The International Organisation of Migration (IOM) on Sunday said Botswana was deporting about 500 Zimbabweans each month.

“Botswana often records the highest number of deportees every month, with 500 being deported,” said IOM.

“We have assisted 530 people who were deported from Botswana since October 7. “The people are deported due to lack of proper documentation.”

An estimated three million Zimbabweans allegedly fled the country at the height of political and economic crisis, with about 1,5 million Zimbabweans said to be staying in South Africa.

However, just over 275 000 applications were processed under the Zimbabwe Documentation Project.
