Umzingwane Rural District Council has threatened to repossess business and residential stands that are in arrears or have remained undeveloped for a long time.

In a notice released last week, the council gave stand owners up to October 31 to either submit their building plans or start developing the stands.

“Stands with expired leases and which have not yet had their fees paid, or with leases and rates not fully paid for, will also be repossessed,” the local authority said.

The affected areas are Ncema Park medium-density area, Esigodini low-density, Habane Suburb pre–school Stand No 986, Esigodini commercial and industrial stands, business stands in the rural service centre and Habane high-density areas.

Council said the repossessed stands would be allocated to new applicants on the council’s waiting list. Council chief executive officer Ndumiso Mpofu was, however, unavailable to comment on the issue.
