Tragedy hit a Braeside family recently when a man failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the suburb and hit his nephew, killing him on the spot.

Witnesses told NewsDay that the man, Jerry Bonzo, who was driving an Isuzu vehicle, failed to negotiate a curve and veered off the road, knocking down his nephew Nigel Bonzo (17).

The deceased’s father, Harrison Bonzo, said he was still in a state of shock as he had just had breakfast with his son, only to receive the shocking message of his death moments later.

“I am really in shock. I was with my son and we had an early breakfast together like always. He was my last born,” said a tearful Bonzo, adding that Jerry was on his way from Mbare where he had gone to attend an aunt’s funeral.

His sister Fungai was also short of words, saying the entire family was devastated by the tragedy.

“I was hurt and I am still hurt that such an innocent soul has been suddenly been taken away from our midst,” she said.
