Bulawayo City Council has set a target of $100 000 for this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund that will be distributed to vulnerable groups.

Speaking at a donation of goods to the cheer fund by the Latter Day Saint Charities on Monday, Mayor Thaba Moyo said the fund would benefit mainly the elderly, orphans, disabled and vulnerable children.

He said Latter Day Saints Charities had also helped the city by sinking boreholes during water shortages.

“Besides this donation of goods worth $2 000, Bulawayo appreciates the other work that has been done by the Latter Day Saints notably the sinking of boreholes around the city,” Moyo said.

“We have formed borehole water committees to look after the boreholes that are important to us because water is life and they contribute to keeping our city alive.”

Roy Bean, a Latter Day Saints elder, commended Moyo for his efforts in addressing the plight of vulnerable groups in the city.
