The Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG) has developed special packages targeted at locals during the festive season in a bid to stimulate domestic tourism.

RTG corporate communications manager Eltah Nengomasha said traditionally the festive season was relatively quiet with moderate occupancies during the first week of December.

She said occupancy levels usually pick up in the second week until the end of the month.

“Presently, the A‘Zambezi River Lodge and Victoria Falls Rainbow properties in Victoria Falls are expected to be busy during the Christmas period with little or no room availability between 22-31 December 2011,” she said.

Both properties have festive season packages for the domestic market running from December 1–31 2011.

She said city hotels were generally quiet as conferencing and general corporate business slows down with the annual shutdown of most organisations.

Nengomasha said all hotels under RTG were running several festive season promotions such as accommodation packages for Christmas and New Year’s Eve dinner packages.

These promotions will spill over into the new year mostly for city hotels .

“The group is cognisant of the contribution of the domestic market to the overall activity levels within the tourism industry,” she said.

“Hence the Rainbow Tourism Group has tailor-made a wide range of value-driven packages from accommodation, dinner and activity packages for the local market segments during this festive season.”
