In our January 10 issue, we carried a story headlined ‘Guard Alert Security property to go under the hammer’ where Guard Alert had been ordered to pay an ex-employee $56 520 for unlawful dismissal by the Labour Court.
The report said the ex-employee, Norbert Tangirai, was fired in 2007 on allegations that he directly reported criminals to the police without communicating with the company’s management.
The story created an impression Tangirai unearthed a scam involving Guard Alert’s top management.
It has since come to our attention that this was not the case. The ex-employee set up a trap at a client’s premises and not at Guard Alert.
Insinuations that Guard Alert interfered with investigations were also not true. The company has appealed against the arbitration award.
We sincerely apologise to Guard Alert for the inconvenience the publication of the story could have caused.
