A 37-year-old man took his life by drinking poison allegedly after seeing his wife walking with a fellow villager.

David Tanyikwa reportedly died on his way to hospital after drinking a chemical known as Termeron he was using to filter his tobacco crop.

Police said Tanyikwa had spent the day spraying tobacco last week in Mandikwaza village under Chief Saunyama using a knapsack.

On his way home he saw his wife walking with another villager identified as Samuel Mandikwa (58).

This allegedly did not go down well with Tanyikwa as he is said to have suspected that Mankikwa was dating his wife.

He reportedly walked for a short distance before deciding to commit suicide.

“Tanyikwa sat on the ground and started to suck the diluted Termeron pesticide from the knapsack in full view of his wife and Mandikwa,” said acting Manicaland police spokesperson Sergeant Muzondiwa Clean.

Mandikwa is said to have rushed to stop Tanyikwa from taking his own life, but it was too late.

He reportedly rushed to inform fellow villagers who teamed up to ferry the groaning Tanyikwa to Regina Coeli Mission Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police urged aggrieved persons to seek help to solve disputes.
