Beitbridge council this year set aside $80 000 for a greening programme aimed at improving the town’s image.

Secretary Sipho Singo said since Beitbridge was the gateway into Zimbabwe, the local authority had to invest to make the environment attractive and appealing.

“We have budgeted about $80 000 for the greening of a four-kilometre area in the town,” he said.

“This is a major project meant to improve the environmental status of the town and protect the area from any environmentally-associated disasters.”

Singo said the project will involve planting of trees and the growing of a “lawn to change the face of the town and promote a good environment”.
