CHINHOYI — Police have launched a manhunt for an unidentified woman who allegedly kidnapped her benefactor’s three-year-old granddaughter after she had been offered overnight accommodation at the family’s house.

The incident occurred on February 29 at Village 24, Kuti Estates in Chinhoyi.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident and identified the missing child as Panashe Chirigaduri.

“On February 28 at around 8pm, an unknown female adult asked for a place to sleep for the night. She was offered accommodation by Lynnah Chirigaduri (82), who is the missing toddler’s grandmother,” said Mabgweazara.

The suspect reportedly woke up during the night and took away the girl before the granny discovered the kidnapping in the morning. A report was then made to the police.
