MDC-T Zengeza East MP Alexio Musundire was lucky to escape an effective jail term on Tuesday when he was slapped with a $200 fine after being convicted of pointing a firearm at his childs friends in October last year.
Harare magistrate Anita Tshuma dismissed Musundires argument that his prosecution was political and found him guilty after accepting the evidence of the minors who testified in court.
The legislator was also sentenced to a three-month jail term, which was wholly suspended on condition he does not commit any offence in contravention of the Firearms Act.
Musundire was charged with contravening Section 27 (b) of the Firearms Act Chapter 10:09.
The State presented that the four pupils went to Musundires Belvedere home where one of them wanted to give the MPs son a counter book. Upon their arrival, the four met Musundire who turned them away, but left them at the gate.
The court heard the children started calling Musundires son, but he did not come out to meet them and when they decided to leave the MP drove after them.

He confronted them and produced an Amadeo Rossi revolver which he pointed at them while threatening to shoot.
Musundire then told the children they would be killed if he were to see them again near his residence after which he reversed his vehicle and drove back to his house.
The four schoolchildren were later advised by an unidentified man to report the matter to the police, which they did, leading to Musundires arrest.
