CHINHOYI — A Chinhoyi landlady will rue the day she vented her anger on a tenant who confronted her over missing spoons after a magistrate slapped her with a two-month jail sentence for assault.

Magistrate Sam Chitumwa last week sentenced Annah Mandebvu (22) of Cold Stream in Chinhoyi to two months in prison or to alternatively pay a $200 fine.

In addition, Mandebvu was slapped with two months which were wholly suspended for five years on condition she does not within that period commit an assault offence.

It was the State’s case that on February 3 at around 3pm, the tenant Alice Jari’s spoons went missing and she suspected her landlady had mistakenly taken them away from the sink. Jari (29) then sent her maid to inquire from the landlady.

This did not go down well with Mandebvu who felt she had been accused of theft.

Mandebvu armed herself with a brick and struck Jari once on the face, resulting in her sustaining a deep cut above the right eye and getting hospitalised, the court heard.
