The late musician Andy Brown, who died last week at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare, was laid to rest at his rural home in Mberengwa yesterday.
A sombre atmosphere engulfed the homestead as most of the musicians 10 children met for the first time ever to bid their father farewell.
Brown succumbed to severe pneumonia last Friday, a day after his 50th birthday.
The talented artistes burial was attended by musicians who included Peter Moyo, Dick Chingaira (Cde Chinx) and Amos Mahendere.
Music promoters Patson Chipaz Chimbodza, Josh Hozheri and Willard Chirenje were also there. Information and Publicity minister Webster Shamu, who also attended the burial, took a swipe at journalists saying: Reporters should focus on such things as why Andy Brown sang Mawere Kongonya. He sang that song because he related to his homestead. As you can see, he referred to that mountain.
Peter Moyo made an emotional gesture when he pledged to donate proceeds from one of his future shows to Browns aunt, Ntombana Ncube. His announcement was met with thunderous applause from mourners.

When my father died I was assisted by that man, he said pointing at Chimbodza. When I asked for money he gave me the support and taught me that I should work for myself. Today I felt I should also extend a helping hand.
Shamu applauded Moyo and urged the community to emulate him. Chiwoniso Maraire, Browns ex-wife, arrived at the homestead a few minutes before burial proceedings.
