The breakaway Mthwakazi National Party (MNP) at the weekend held its first rally in Bulawayo and nearly 100 residents turned up at Nkulumane Hall to listen to the new party’s leadership.
The party’s secretary-general, Ngqabutho Dlamini, said they were not bothered by the low attendance as they were just starting.
“The Nkulumane rally was a good start for MNP,” he said.
“Although the turnout was below our expectations, we are happy that this meeting happened without any incident.”
“We managed to prove that Mthwakazians can attend Mthwakazi meetings and come out alive and free.” Dlamini said the party would be a permanent feature in the country’s political space.
He said MNP, a party formed by mostly youths who broke away from the secessionist Mthwakazi Liberation Front, was committed to democracy.

“As a party, we are committed to all peaceful and democratic processes as means towards our goal,” he said.
“We call upon all the people of Mthwakazi in and outside the country to rally behind MNP.”
In February this year the party held a meeting where it resolved that it would participate in the country’s next general elections.
