The Girl Guides and Brownies will tomorrow celebrate the 100th Thinking Day at Twin Rivers School as part of the Girl Guides Association of Zimbabwe centenary celebrations.
The day will begin with a small service, an address from the chief commissioner Lucy Bvumbe, and fun and games for the family.
Tomorrow’s celebration will run under the theme for this year, “Together we can save the planet”. This is in line with the United Nations Millennium Development Goal Number Seven to “ensure environmental sustainability”.
Schools in the district, such as Convent, Twin Rivers, Avondale and Lusitania Primary School will attend the event.
Bvumbe said: “The aim of girl guides is to develop young girls who are able to think independently and girls who are assertive and confident.”
Bvumbe also highlighted that most prefects come from the guides and this shows that through the association there is opportunity for young girls to become leaders.

The centenary celebrations were launched on March 24 this year in Mutare, and a big fun day will be held in June as part of the World Association of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) Day commemorations.
The Girl Guides Association of Zimbabwe programme caters for girls from the ages of five to 21 years; Sunbeams in Grade s1-3; Brownies from Grades 3-5, Guides from about Grade Seven to Form 1 and Rangers from the ages of 14-21 years.
