Zapu’s Bulawayo provincial chairman Ray Ncube told party supporters over the weekend donors were no longer willing to fund their activities unless the party merged with other political parties in government.
“Some people have been asking why our party is experiencing financial problems,” said Ncube.
“Donors are now tired of funding political parties’ campaign programmes. They are asking why we don’t join other political parties in the inclusive government.”
Ncube was addressing party members at the official opening of Zapu’s Bulawayo provincial offices.
Ncube’s remarks come at a time the Dumiso Dabengwa-led party was recently issued with an eviction order from its rented premises in Bulawayo after accumulating $10 000 in rental arrears.
Political parties are legally barred from receiving direct foreign funding for their activities, but those with representation in Parliament are entitled to government funding under the Political Parties Finance Act.

Meanwhile, the party’s national people’s council chairman Isaac Mabuka said they would soon set an information centre for its members.
Zapu was formed in 2009 after former PF Zapu members pulled out of the 1987 Unity Accord between Zanu PF and PF Zapu citing unfulfilled promises by their coalition government partners.
Its leader, Dabengwa, is a former Zanu PF politburo heavyweight who served in that role since the December 1987 Unity Accord signed between President Robert Mugabe and the late Joshua Nkomo, integrating Zapu into Zanu PF.
