MDC-T treasurer and former non-constituency Senator Roy Bennett yesterday said Zimbabweans should fight for their freedom and not rely on false hopes and rumours of President Robert Mugabe’s ill-health and that Zimbabwe’s problems might end by his death.
Bennett said this on social network Facebook where he urged Zimbabweans to take charge of their destiny.
“All rumours of President Mugabe’s ill-health are a distraction because our problem is bigger than one person,” said Bennett.
“We are dealing with an entrenched alliance between rotten politicians and a junta and hoping that his death will deliver freedom is a false hope,” he said.
His comments come a week after international media spread reports that Mugabe was on the deathbed in Singapore and was likely to die of cancer.
The reports proved false as Mugabe jetted back into the country last week looking fit and has since officiated at two events, including at the Independence Day celebrations on Wednesday.

Bennett said freedom would not come on a silver platter and people needed to be focused and fight for their rights.
In another post, Bennett told Zimbabweans to deal with the root causes of economic problems. “We must deal with the root causes and get rid of those who have wrecked our beloved country, and only then will we enjoy jobs and opportunities for Zimbabweans to put themselves back on their feet. Everyone must play a part,” he said.
