BINGA — A 37-year-old man from the Siabuwa area in Binga who pelted his neighbour with stones accusing him of stealing mbanje (marijuana) from his garden was on Thursday slapped with 105 hours of community service.

David Muzamba pleaded guilty to an assault charge when he appeared before Binga resident magistrate Stephen Ndlovu.

The magistrate convicted and sentenced him to three months in jail, which was wholly suspended on condition he performs 105 hours of community service at Chabwidi Primary School starting on Monday.

It was the State case that on May 13, Muzamba was drinking beer at a fellow villager’s homestead after picking cotton from his fields. He accused his neighbour Simulonga George Dube of stealing dagga from his fields before pelting him with stones.

Dube took to his heels with Muzamba in hot pursuit, stoning him. He reportedly sustained serious injuries.

A report made to the police led to the arrest of Muzamba.
