Police in Mudzi North yesterday arrested six suspects in connection with the murder of MDC-T activist Cephas Magura following clashes between Zanu PF and MDC-T supporters at Chimukoko business centre on Saturday.

Magura (67) was an MDC-T ward chairperson. Mashonaland East provincial police chief, Senior Assistant Commissioner Ronald Muderedzwa, confirmed the arrests last night and said investigations were in progress.

The politically-motivated violence occurred at Chimukoko business centre on Saturday around 10am in which a male adult Cephas Magura was allegedly killed as a result of political violence between alleged Zanu PF and MDC-T supporters, said Muderedzwa in a statement. Muderedzwa said the suspects were in police custody.

Political parties should desist from instigating their supporters towards committing acts of violence as no sacred cows will be spared, said Muderedzwa.

MDC-T Mudzi district spokesperson Kubvoruno Choga said a Zanu PF councillor identified as David Chimukoko was among those arrested.

MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora accused Zanu PF supporters of causing the clashes after they allegedly disrupted an MDC-T meeting which had been sanctioned by the police.
