Zanu PF national political commissar Webster Shamu has ordered the party’s Makoni district to conduct fresh district co-ordinating committee (DCC) elections tomorrow after the results of the first poll were disputed.
Kenneth Saruchera, Zanu PF’s Manicaland secretary for administration, confirmed the development yesterday and expressed optimism the weekend elections would be incident-free.
Last month, party activists picketed their provincial offices in Mutare in protest over alleged vote-rigging and imposition of candidates in the previous polls.
“We were cleared by the principals and all concerned stakeholders to proceed with the elections. The national commissariat department was satisfied with the new arrangements under which we are going to preside over the DCC elections in Makoni district,” said Saruchera.
“All processes have been agreed on and we are encouraging people to vote peacefully and in the event that they have grievances, they should follow the correct procedures.
“After Makoni district, we will assess the process to check whether everyone was satisfied before we move on to other districts.”

Makoni district is home to Didymus Mutasa, the party’s national secretary for administration.
Nathaniel Mhiripiri Garikai and Albert Nyakuedzwa, believed to be from Vice-President Joice Mujuru and Defence minister Emmerson Mnangagwa’s factions respectively, are expected to contest the chairperson’s post.
