FRANCISTOWN — A man suspected to be a Zimbabwean national is battling for his life at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital in Francistown, Botswana’s second largest city, after he was allegedly shot and injured while trying to run away from police.

Police Senior Assistant Commissioner Christopher Mbulawa said the 29-year-old man had been arrested during a police patrol operation at a farm in Francistown last Thursday.

“A 29-year-old man believed to be a Zimbabwean was shot and injured at a farm near Francistown last Thursday afternoon,” Mbulawa said.

The incident is reported to have occurred when the police were pursuing reports of increased cases of break-ins in the city.

Mbulawa confirmed that the suspect, whose identity he could not disclose, was injured on both legs and was currently admitted at the Francistown’s referral hospital.
