Masvingo residents are living in fear of a fresh cholera outbreak as city taps have gone dry for the past three days.

As a result, residents have resorted to using water from unprotected wells along Mucheke River while a few lucky ones were fetching water from the few boreholes sunk by Care International (Zimbabwe), a non-governmental organisation.

Masvingo mayor Alderman Femius Chakabuda attributed the crisis to a burst water pipe which he said needed at least four days to be repaired.

“One of the pipes that feed into our tanks burst and we are rectifying the situation. We needed four days to repair it and I am sure by tomorrow (today) everything will be alright,” Chakabuda said.
