A Harare man, Innocent Tunhira, has reportedly defied a traditional court order to pay a fine following his conviction on a charge of having an extra-marital affair with a Chiweshe villager’s wife.
Tunhira, of Budiriro, was summoned to appear at Chief Negomo’s court four months ago facing charges of adultery, but allegedly ignored the summons.
Instead, the court went ahead to pass a default judgment in favour of the offended villager and ordered Tunhira to pay two beasts or $900 as fine.
According to records at the traditional court, Tunhira, whose age was not disclosed, was caught red-handed in a compromising position with the villager’s wife at a park in Budiriro in March this year.
The villager, who is a member of the police Criminal Investigation Department, reported the matter to Chief Negomo’s court accusing Tunhira of adultery.
Negomo’s secretary Godfrey Kunzekwenyika told the court the villager was also accusing Tunhira of being responsible for his wife’s seven-month-old pregnancy.

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai was once summoned to Negomo’s court over allegations of getting married in the sacred month of November but also defied the order.
A default judgment was issued against him and he was subsequently fined, but Tsvangirai defied the ruling.
