A 40-year-old Chegutu man was last week sentenced to an effective eight years in prison for raping a 13-year-old girl.
Owen Mpala was initially slapped with 11 years before three were conditionally suspended.
Prosecutor Temptation Maromo told the court that on a date unknown to the State, but sometime in September last year, the minor was alone at their house at Kaguvi, Chegutu, when the accused came and entered her room.
He then raped the girl once and left, the court heard.
During the court proceedings, the girl claimed she fell sick following the sexual assault.
The offence came to light after the girl told her aunt who then made a police report, leading to Mpala’s arrest.
