CASH-STRAPPED Kadoma town council will have to hold on to its town clerk Malvin Dondo who was due to leave office at the end of October after councillors pushed for his ouster three months ago over allegations of incompetence.

Report by Blessed Mhlanga

Dondo was due to leave office this month after being offered an exit package reportedly  above $100 000.

However, Kadoma mayor Peter Matambo yesterday said the Local Government Board had not yet approved Dondo’s proposed demands.

“It appears Dondo will have to start serving his three-month notice from end of October when he was due to leave primarily because the Local Government Board is yet to approve the package we agreed on. We also don’t have the money to pay him at the moment. If we rush to let him go, we will face serious challenges because he will need his package,” said Matambo.

Although Matambo declined to disclose details related to Dondo’s exit package, sources said the town clerk’s golden handshake would consist of $30 000 cash, a house, a commercial stand and his official car, an Isuzu twin cab truck.
