THE Zimbabwe National Editors’ Forum (Zinef) yesterday urged authorities investigating the Asiagate football scandal, which has so far sucked in two sports journalists, to speedily conclude the matter in the interest of justice.Report by Staff Reporter
In a statement, Zinef chairman Brian Mangwende said: “We have noticed as editors that some members of the media fraternity have been caught up in the so-called Asiagate debacle and would like to make our position categorically clear on this issue.
“While we would not like to rush to conclusions in this cryptic and long-running saga, we wish to point out that this matter should be speedily and fairly concluded in the interest of justice.
“We are duty-bound to point out that as a profession we neither tolerate nor sanction corruption by anyone whosoever in our midst, that is why we wish this issue be speedily and justly concluded.”
Two sports journalists Robson Sharuko and Hope Chizuzu have been implicated in the alleged match-fixing scandal involving soccer administrators and players.
Sharuko and Chizuzu have been banned from all football-related matters for life over their alleged involvement. Sharuko is The Herald Senior Sports Editor, while Chizuzu is a freelancer.

Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe director Takura Zhangazha and Zimbabwe Union of Journalists secretary-general Foster Dongozi said they were still consulting and would comment once they see the probe report.
