THE Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has acquired two new additional heavy-duty generators to provide power at the Large City Hall and Tower Block after the two centres were disconnected by Zesa almost two years ago over a $9 million debt. Report by Own Correspondent

Bulawayo mayor Thaba Moyo yesterday confirmed the development, adding the additional generators were meant to increase productivity at the local authority’s two main administration centres.

“There was a proposal from the financial director to add more generators to increase efficiency in service delivery,” he said.

“The generators we bought this time are upgraded and will provide better service than the ones we had. We are trying to reduce our power consumption by all means because we are the biggest consumers of power in the city and are charged under commercial business yet we are a non-profit making organisation.”

Zesa disconnected BCC in January 2011 over a $9,2 million debt. But according to the latest council minutes, the debt now stands at $87 200.
