CHEGUTU — In what befits a movie script, five masked armed robbers pounced on a 31-year-old man, tied his hands with his belt and shoelaces, stole his car, pistol and $1 500 cash before vanishing into the night.

Mashonaland West acting provincial spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera yesterday confirmed the robbery.
According to police, at around 10pm last Friday, five men armed with iron bars, axes and screwdrivers went to Chrispen Chamunorwa’s home at Hiltonview, Chegutu, and broke into his house. They ransacked the house and took $1 000 cash, a Nokia cellphone and tied Chamunorwa’s hands with his canvas belt and shoelaces.
“The gang proceeded to his bedroom and stole $500 from his bag, a Star pistol, took his Isuzu KB pick-up truck and drove away,” Kohwera said.
Chamunorwa reportedly managed to untie himself and reported the matter to ZRP Chegutu. The car was, however, recovered near Chegutu main bus terminus the following day.

It is understood that the same gang robbed another house in the same neighbourhood an hour later using the same modus operandi and stole over $550 and cellphones.
Kohwera said a manhunt for the criminals had since been launched.
