THE usually serene picturesque rural area of Uzumba reverberated into life on Saturday night after talented musician Mukudzei Mukombe aka Jah Prayzah threw a $7 000 birthday party for his mother Shirley Mukombe.

At least 1 000 people from all walks of life thronged the Mukombe homestead in Uzumba to celebrate Mukombe’s 57th birthday. Pomp and fanfare characterised the event.
An ambulance was parked at the premises and a number of police officers wandered about to maintain order.
Top-of-the-range vehicles, a state-of-the art PA system, cakes, the type of food, the big tent and a 20 KVA generator were convincing enough that the young star indeed prepared for the event.
“It has been a tough task for me to prepare for my mother’s birthday party and I forked out at least $7 000.

“I know I spent a lot but it’s worth it, it’s my obligation to honour my mother and this is why I decided to host a party for her.” His mother said: “When Mukudzei informed me about the birthday I thought it was a joke until today.”
“I can’t believe that all these people are here for my party. I am very happy to be honoured like this.It’s every mother’s dream to have children who honour them this way”.
It was indeed an electric atmosphere in Uzumba as people started streaming in numbers. Despite the scorching heat, some came barefooted while others had babies strapped on their backs.
The party started on a high note with traditional dance from a group from Nyadire Mission. People continued to stream in numbers and their excitement increased when Jah Prayzah took to the stage.
The lanky musician, who commands a huge following in his home area, didn’t disappoint as he sent the crowd into frenzy with his songs. A cloud of dust was seen hovering over the venue as people danced the night away.
The Gochi Gochi hitmaker then handed over the microphone to rising group the Talking Guitars who also put up a pulsating performance. The party ended around 5 am on Sunday.
Zanu PF Politburo member Tendai Savanhu, who is also Jah Prayza’s uncle and Uzumba Member of Parliament Simbaneuta Mudarikwa graced the occasion.
