GWANDA – The Officer-In-Charge at Fort Rixon Police Base, Inspector Alexious Munkuli, appeared in court on Monday charged with abuse of office after he allegedly served a mining company with a High Court provisional order directing it to stop mining.

He then allegedly allowed his partner to extract gold from the same claim.
Munkuli (42) was not asked to plead when he appeared before Gwanda magistrate Shillah Nazombe on Monday.
The court remanded him to December 3 on free bail.
The prosecutor Alexander Moyo told the court that on October 7, Munkuli was tasked with serving Fanuel Ganda of Rainy Day 58 mine who was illegally extracting gold from Triple Renaissance Mine – also known as Henfrik G Mining – in Shangani with a High Court provisional order directing him to stop mining activities on the site.

The order also directed Ganda not to interfere with the operations at the mine.
Soon after serving Ganda, Munkuli allegedly approached Joseph Tshuma the chief operations and security officer at Triple Renaissance whom he asked to allow Trymore Sabelo Sibanda to prospect for gold from the claim using a metal detector.
Munkuli would then benefit from the gold proceeds obtained from the mine by his partner Sibanda, the court heard.
It is the State case that on October 9, Sibanda got $300 worth of gold and he was allegedly paid $50 by Munkuli, who then took the rest.
Munkuli allegedly took advantage of having helped remove the illegal mining syndicate from the mine to benefit from the mining activities illegally. A report was made to the police leading to his arrest.
