According to the latest council minutes, Sizalendaba Secondary School, built by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and then donated to the local authority, will have its first intake when the first term begins in January next year.

The local authority said it had budgeted $10 000 for purchasing relevant learning materials in preparation for the opening of the school.

“The school would need stationery, cleaning materials and support staff to operate effectively and efficiently,” the report said.

“As usual, the Ministry of Education would provide the professional staff.”

The report said when the city council took over from IOM in October this year, the first two classroom blocks at the school, together with the caretaker’s house, were about to be completed and the Blair toilets were about 90% complete.

The initial enrolment for the Form 1 students at the school was expected to total 209.
