“There is high demand for blood during festive seasons and we have launched our blood donations in different phases to meet the 6 000 units target,” said NBSZ spokesperson Esther Massundah while in Mutare on Wednesday.

“Youths will give blood this Friday and Saturday under the theme My blood my Pride. There are several campaigns for adults too for both regular and new donors. We are appealing to regular and new donors to be cooperative and participate in all the programmes,” said Massundah.

She said the NBSZ team had started visiting different parts of the country to collect blood so that they meet the target. “The response from the donors has always been positive during the festive season and if demand surpasses the target, we will appeal again,” she said.

Over the same period last year, the NBSZ collected 2 200 units of blood against a target of 5 000 units.
