Speaking during a donation of goods to the cheer fund by the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, the mayor Patrick Thaba Moyo said the fund was meant to benefit the less privileged.

“We have not yet reached our target of $150 000 for the cheer fund, but we are happy to see people donating something to the less privileged,” he said.

“These things will go a long way in cheering up the kids this festive season.”

The donation worth $3 000 comprised books, toys, bibles and T-shirts.

A representative of the church, Tasara Makasi, said they counted it as a blessing to give to the cheer fund every year and to the city as a whole.

Last year the church officially handed over 10 boreholes to the local authority as part of efforts to mitigate the city’s water problems.
