AN employee at Mbokodo Abattoirs in Bulawayo, who allegedly caused the death of a workmate after switching on a stockfeed mixing machine while his colleague was inside, has been further remanded as investigations into the fatal accident have not yet been completed.

Judah Marwisa (36) of Sizinda Flats in Bulawayo, who is on $50 bail, was not asked to plead to a culpable homicide charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Merlyn Mtshina.

He is being charged with causing the death of his workmate Bongani Ncube last December.

The court heard that on December 17 last year at around 5pm, Ncube was cleaning the interior of the tractor-driven stockfeed mixing machine together with a fellow worker, Onias Mpume, at the company premises.

Marwisa — who was the operator of the machine — allegedly switched on the machine without checking.

Mpume managed to jump out leaving Ncube who was then crushed by the mixer’s rotating pedals.

His body was later taken to the United Bulawayo Hospital for postmortem.

The court further remanded Marwisa to February 26 for trial.
