KADOMA — A six-year-old boy returning from church in the company of his mother was on Sunday electrocuted after he touched live Zesa cables which were exposed.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara yesterday confirmed the incident and identified the victim as Patrick Daniel of Plot 4, Massachussetes Farm, Kadoma.
Police said on February 24 at around 11am at the farm, the now-deceased and his mother Sibonisiwe Chuma (38) were coming from church on their way home. It is reported that the boy, who was walking behind his mother, saw a rotten Zesa gum pole with three live wires that had fallen by the roadside.
“The now-deceased, without being detected by his mother, proceeded to touch the live cables which were 50cm above ground level and was shocked by the high voltage resulting in him sustaining serious burns all over his body. His intestines protruded from the right side of the abdomen,” said Mabgweazara, adding the victim’s mother immediately sought help.
Patrick was rushed to Kadoma General Hospital and later transferred to Harare Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead on admission. The matter was reported to the police who attended the scene together with Zesa technicians.
