NKAYI — The case of a police constable who beat up his boss accusing him of having an affair with his wife took a new twist on Monday when the woman at the centre of the controversy testified that her husband had found the senior police officer sitting on their matrimonial bed at midnight.

Nkayi magistrate Ndumo Masuku deferred the matter to today for judgment.
This was after Tinashe Munhamo (22) — who pleaded not guilty to assaulting his boss Inspector Newyear Rera (39), and is out of custody on $100 bail — had called his wife Moreblessing Chitengedza as his defence witness.
Four police officers had already testified against Munhamo at the time when he was put on his defence.
They told the court that on the day in question Munhamo was violent, which led to his arrest at the police station.

But Chitengedza yesterday told the court that on the day in question, Rera came to their house at 12 midnight while her husband was away. She said her husband arrived at the house minutes later and found Rera sitting on their matrimonial bed.
Chitengedza said Rera bolted from the house.
The prosecutor, Maxwell Hapanyengwi, told the court that Munhamo accused his boss, the officer-in-charge of the police construction section in Nkayi, of having a love affair with his wife.
On January 19 at 12 midnight Rera left his residence going to his office.
Munhamo allegedly way-laid him and struck him on the neck with an unknown object.
Rera fell down and Munhamo further struck him on the left foot with a stone. He allegedly threatened to stab him with a knife.
But Rera grabbed his hand, freed himself from Munhamo’s grip and fled to the charge office where he made a report.
Munhamo allegedly pursued him to the charge office where he threatened to further assault him, but was restrained by his colleagues who later detained him.
