BULAWAYO provincial police deputy commander Assistant Commissioner Christopher Gora has been sucked in a $35 bribery scandal involving his two subordinates and a motorcyclist.

The matter came to light last Thursday after the motorcyclist, Valentine Mufudza, claimed that Gora’s subordinates Christian Mazvanya and Morven Zumba had demanded a $35 bribe to cover up for his offence of driving without a crash helmet and driver’s licence. Mufudza told the court Mazvanya and Zumba indicated they were going to share the money with their boss, Gora.
The court heard that on March 24 this year, Gora arrested Mufudza for contravening traffic rules and later instructed his subordinates to escort him to Bulawayo Central Police Station.
At the station, Mufudza was allegedly handed over to Mazvanya and Zumba who were on duty at that particular time.
The pair allegedly escorted Mufudza into the holding cells at the charge office where they asked if he had money on him.

Mufudza took out $20 from his pockets, but Mazvanya and Zumba advised him that it was not enough.
They allowed him to phone a relative, Admire Ncube, to bring more money.
Ncube arrived at the police station with $40 and handed it over to Mufudza who gave it to the pair together with the initial $20. However, Mazvanya and Zumba allegedly later wrote him a $25 ticket for the offence and retained the balance, claiming they intended to give it to Gora.
After that, Mufudza was released, but immediately reported the matter, leading to the arrest of the two.
