The 19-year-old music student at the Namibia Music College took the top position after competing with various contestants from cities around Namibia.

“I feel so honoured to have won a talent search competition in a foreign country and I’m very grateful that Namibians totally love my music despite the fact that I’m from Zimbabwe,” said Zarira.

The young musician grew up in Zimbabwe and went to join his mother in Namibia a few years ago, before enrolling for music studies in that country.

Zarira recently came to Zimbabwe and managed to showcase his talent at the ZBC Munyati Community Hall in the Midlands province. He sings R&B and he recently released an album titled Crying for Mercy. “In Namibia I have managed to work with well-known artistes such as ASAP, Nadine Dax and Kele who is popularly seen in Bujo Mujo music, among many other musicians.”

He said during his visit back home he had figured out that it was rather expensive producing and launching music in Zimbabwe especially considering that he was only a student. He decided to launch his music in Namibia although he would have loved to do it back home.

Zarira said he would complete his music studies this year and move on to study electrical engineering, although music would remain his greatest passion.

“I have been recognised in the Namibian music industry and I’m working towards that in my own country. I started singing when I was very young and I know I was born to do it.”
