A Silobela man Munyaradzi Shirichena has been slapped with a 30-day jail term for disrupting a community court and accusing the local chief of bias.

Report by Blessed Mhlanga

Shirichena was sentenced on his own plea of guilty to a contempt of court charge when he appeared before Kwekwe provincial magistrate Taurai Manwere on Tuesday.

The court heard that on April 6, Shirichena was summoned before Chief Malisa to answer to charges of insulting his father. He was eventually convicted of the charge and ordered to pay a goat as fine.

This, however, did not go down well with Shirichena who immediately ran amok, overturning benches and bringing court proceedings to a halt.

The chief’s security aides later arrested him and pressed contempt of court charges against him.

The sentence was, however, wholly suspended on condition he paid $200 fine.
