TWO Bulawayo men have been hauled before the courts on allegations of fraud after they connived to produce a fake vehicle registration book. Report by Khulani Nkabinde
Leopold Kudakwashe Mhike (29) of Charlotte Crescent and his co-accused Vikizitha Njere (32) of Entumbane suburb appeared before magistrate Witness Mtetwa on charges of contravening Section 136 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23, defined as fraud.
Prosecutor Marlvin Nzombe told the court that sometime in February this year, but on a date not known to the court, the two men received R7 500 from Meluleki Chisale for a duplicate vehicle registration book for his pick-up truck.
“The two men connived and produced a fake vehicle registration book which they handed to Chisale who did not notice that it was fake,” Nzombe told the court.
He said the offence came to light when the complainant went to the police for verification, where it was discovered that the vehicle registration book was not genuine, leading to the arrest of Mhike and Njere.
Nzombe said Mhike is the one who was given the money and then implicated Njere after being arrested, indicating that Njere produced the fake registration book. The State alleged that Mhike handed the fake vehicle registration book to the complainant.

Both men are unemployed and are out on $200 bail.
They will appear before the same court on May 23 for trial.
