THE trial of prominent lawyer and MDC-T MP-elect for Chikanga-Dangamvura constituency Arnold Tsunga and 49 other party supporters on charges of holding an unsanctioned motorised campaign procession failed to commence yesterday after the State indicated that it was not yet ready to proceed with the matter.

Tsunga and the 49 party members were arrested and charged with criminal nuisance after they allegedly held a campaign procession in Mutare on July 19 without police clearance.
The procession was part of his campaign ahead of the July 31 harmonised elections.
The group is alleged to have driven around Dangamvura Area 3 and 16 and using three vehicles driven by Tsunga together with Allan Manzou and Boniface Gweru.
However, Tsunga through his lawyers Tinoziva Bere and Blessing Nyamaropa denied the charge.

The 50 spent a night in police custody upon their arrest, but were freed on July 20 upon payment of $20 admission of guilty fines each. The fine was, however, gnashed by the court after they challenged it.
Mutare magistrate Charles Murowe remanded the matter to September 3.
