More than 10 primary schools from the district and other places in the province are set to compete at the festival that has proved to be popular.

Jerusarema-Mbende dance is characterised by sensual and acrobatic movements by women in unison with men.

They dance to a single polyrhythmic drum accompanied by woodblock clappers.

The event will feature popular Mbende groups and artistes in the name of Douglas Vambe, Goromonzi-based groups Ngoma Dzepasi and Rarira Dendera who will be the guest artistes.

Festival co-coordinator Cuthbert Maziwa yesterday said all is in place for the festival to kick off.

“It is game on and we are going to have about 13 primary schools for the competition and the winner will walk away with prize money.

Moreover, Vambe and other groups will be performing at the festival as guest artistes,” he said.

Last year, Dombodzvuku Primary School from Murewa was crowned champions after a sterling performance in front of a huge crowd.

The festival is sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation and supported by National Arts Council of Zimbabwe.
