AN ex-convict Onias Mawire has set up a recording studio called Mighty Exploits Studios in Arcadia to assist prison returnees to record music.

Mawire, who served a 7-year sentence for armed robbery and carjacking, said he came up with this idea after various recording studios had turned down pleas by him to record music following his release from prison in 2007.
“I was a victim of rejection as I tried to launch my music career that left me at one point with no hope of making it, before resorting to settting up my own studio that is also going to be a relief to fellow ex-convicts,” said Mawire.
“Many people usually face rejection by society, but my vision is to accord a chance to ex-convicts to record their music with Mighty Exploits Studios.”
The 36-year-old Mawire said ex-convicts must pursue their callings and not let them be ruined by their tainted background. “Because of my experience and as a changed person, I want to challenge those who think that being an ex-convict is the end of life. I am saying despite that history, you one can rise and shine again.”

Mawire, who is now a member of Celebration Church said he repented while he was in jail after receiving the teachings of Pastor Winnie Kanoyangwa of Celebration Ministries International.
“From the day Pastor Kanoyangwa talked to me, I started composing songs which had a message of reformation and encouragement,” he said.
Mawire said he is now a changed person who is living a crime-free life since his release from Chikurubi Maximum Prison a couple of years ago.
In 2010, he participated in a peace mission project when he cycled from the capital to Marondera preaching the gospel dubbed Anti-crime Cycle Campaign aimed at discouraging youths from criminal behaviour.
