THE Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) has denied reports that Harare lawyer Martin Chasakara was among several lawyers recently deregistered for various reasons.

LSZ secretary Wilbert Mandinde told NewsDay last week that charges levelled against Chasakara were dropped after he was cleared by the Legal Practitioners’ Discipline Tribunal.
“He was never deregistered,” Mandinde said. Chasakara’s partner Tererai Gunje also said: “He was not de-registered, but the Law Society of Zimbabwe withdrew charges against him last year. “As a matter of fact, he decided not to practice this year and is on sabbatical leave, but will resume practice in 2015.”
Gunje, however, declined to disclose the nature of the charges levelled against his partner.
Several lawyers registered under the LSZ were either suspended or deregistered this year over charges including abuse of trust funds and other malpractices.
