Swedias Chirenda was initially sentenced to 18 months for assault when he appeared before magistrate Lazarus Murendo.

However, six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour while the remainder was set aside on condition he completes 420 hours of community service at Zengeza 8 Primary School in Chitungwiza.

Circumstances of the matter were that on June 1 this year, Chirenda met the complainant Makomo at a bar in Zengeza 5. Chirenda accused Makomo of having wrongfully convicted him some nine years ago.

Chirenda then punched the court official on the neck and on the ear before the complainant’s colleagues intervened and stopped the assault.
