Bailey, who was in the company of his wife Jenifer (67), was anchoring his Traican boat at a lodge along Gatche-Gatche River when he was attacked by the reptile.

The crocodile pulled him into the water while Jenifer was crying for help.

A client at the same lodge, Warren Thorn, came and searched for Bailey’s body.

He found the remains “floating besides the crocodile”. Thorn then shot the crocodile with his rifle and slit it and recovered Bailey’s remains (left hand and intestines).

The attack happened near Bird Island on Lake Kariba.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson İnspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident and advised people to be cautious when fishing in Lake Kariba.

Bailey is a retired schools administrator and his death is reportedly the eighth recorded fatal crocodile attack at the lake since the beginning of the year.

In May, a 34-year-old Kariba resident, Claudius Chimuchocha, was also killed by a crocodile which was later killed by rangers.

The remains of the deceased were retrieved from the reptile.
