Tonderai Ganhura (27) from New Heaven Farm was yesterday sentenced on his own plea of guilty to assault charges when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Lazarus Murendo.

The court heard that on October 8 last year, Constables Farai Nyabasa and Obert Marungisa were assigned to investigate Ganhura and his alleged accomplice Israel Ganhura over a theft case that had occurred at the farm.

Prosecutor Zuvarashe Mushayabasa told the court that Tonderai turned violent and punched the police officers as they attempted to handcuff him.

Other family members and friends joined in the brawl and pummeled the police officers with logs and iron bars, forcing them to flee the scene.
